Daily Gospel – October 2, 2026

Matthew 18:1-10

At that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying: Who, thinkest thou, is the greater in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus, calling unto him a little child, set him in the midst of them. And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, he is the greater in the kingdom of heaven. And he that shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me. See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

On the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, Jesus teaches the value and dignity of every person, especially the little ones. God’s care extends to each individual, and the angels are signs of His loving protection. This Gospel calls us to embrace humility and childlike trust. Greatness in God’s Kingdom is found not in status or achievement but in dependence upon Him. As we honor the Guardian Angels, we are reminded that God continually guides and protects us, inviting us to walk faithfully in His presence.

Luke 10:1-12

And after these things, the Lord appointed also other seventy-two. And he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come. And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he send labourers into his harvest. Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall return to you. And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house. And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick that are therein and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. But into whatsoever city you enter, and they receive you not, going forth into the streets thereof, say: Even the very dust of your city that cleaveth to us, we wipe off against you. Yet know this, that the kingdom of God is at hand. I say to you, it shall be more tolerable at that day for Sodom than for that city.

Jesus sends out the seventy-two disciples ahead of Him, reminding us that every Christian is called to participate in God’s mission. The harvest remains abundant, and the need for faithful witnesses is as urgent today as ever. Christ asks His followers to trust in God’s providence rather than their own resources. This Gospel encourages us to bring peace, hope, and the message of salvation wherever we go. Even small acts of kindness and faithful witness can prepare hearts to receive Christ. We are not sent alone; the Lord goes before us and works through us.
