Matthew 3:13-17
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan, unto John, to be baptized by him. But John stayed him, saying: I ought to be baptized by thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering, said to him: Suffer it to be so now. For so it becometh us to fulfil all justice. Then he suffered him. And Jesus being baptized, forthwith came out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened to him: and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him. And behold a voice from heaven saying: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Jesus’ baptism reveals His identity as the beloved Son of God and marks the beginning of His public ministry. Though He was without sin, He entered the waters in solidarity with humanity. This act reminds us of the grace we received through our own baptism. We have been claimed by God, called His children, and invited into a relationship with Him. In times of doubt or discouragement, remembering our baptism can renew our confidence in God’s love. We are not defined by our failures but by the One who calls us beloved and sends us forth to live faithfully.
