John 19:25-27

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen. When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son. After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.

Standing at the foot of the Cross, Mary remains faithful as Jesus entrusts her to the beloved disciple. Celebrated as Our Lady of Sorrows, Mary teaches us how to remain steadfast in faith amid suffering. Her sorrow is united with hope because she trusts in God’s promises. This feast encourages us to bring our own sorrows to God and to seek Mary’s intercession. Through her example, we learn perseverance, compassion, and trust in God’s loving plan.
