Daily Gospel – May 6, 2026

John 15:1-8

I am the true vine: and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he will take away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now you are clean, by reason of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in me: and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine: you the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch and shall wither: and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire: and he burneth. If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will: and it shall be done unto you. In this is my Father glorified: that you bring forth very much fruit and become my disciples.

Through the image of the vine and branches, Jesus teaches that spiritual fruitfulness comes from remaining united with Him. Just as branches cannot survive apart from the vine, we cannot flourish spiritually without Christ. Prayer, Scripture, and the sacraments keep us connected to His life-giving presence. Easter Season reminds us that the risen Lord continues to nourish His people. When we remain rooted in Him, our lives bear the fruits of faith, charity, patience, and peace that bless both ourselves and others.

John 14:27-31

Peace I leave with you: my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, do I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled: nor let it be afraid. You have heard that I said to you: I go away, and I come unto you. If you loved me you would indeed be glad, because I go to the Father: for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe. I will not now speak many things with you. For the prince of this world: cometh: and in me he hath not any thing. But that the world may know that I love the Father: and as the Father hath given me commandments, so do I. Arise, let us go hence.

Jesus offers a peace that the world cannot give. Human peace often depends on favorable circumstances, but Christ’s peace flows from trust in God’s presence. Even amid difficulties, believers can remain confident because the risen Lord is with them. This Gospel encourages us to surrender our anxieties and place our concerns before God. His peace does not remove every challenge, but it gives us the strength to face them with faith. By remaining close to Christ, we discover lasting calm and hope.

John 14:21-26

He that hath my commandments and keepeth them; he it is that loveth me. And he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. Judas saith to him, not the Iscariot: Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us, and not to the world? Jesus answered and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word. And my Father will love him and we will come to him and will make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my words. And the word which you have heard is not mine; but the Father’s who sent me. These things have I spoken to you, abiding with you. But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring all things to your mind, whatsoever I shall have said to you.

Love for Christ is shown through faithful obedience. Jesus promises the gift of the Holy Spirit, who teaches and guides believers in every generation. This Gospel reminds us that Christian life is not simply about following rules but about responding to God’s love. The Spirit helps us understand God’s will and gives us strength to live it. As we grow closer to Christ, our hearts become more receptive to His presence. Every act of faithfulness becomes an expression of love and gratitude toward the Lord.

And if I shall go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself: that where I am, you also may be. And whither I go you know: and the way you know. Thomas saith to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest. And how can we know the way? Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him. And you have seen him. Philip saith to him: Lord, shew us the Father; and it is enough for us. Jesus saith to him: Have I been so long a time with you and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou: Shew us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? Otherwise believe for the very works’ sake. Amen, amen, I say to you, he that believeth in me, the works that I do, he also shall do: and greater than these shall he do.

Jesus assures His disciples that faith in Him opens the door to a life of mission and purpose. The works He performed reveal God’s power and love, and His followers are called to continue that witness in the world. Easter reminds us that Christ is alive and active through His Church. Our faith is not passive but calls us to share hope, mercy, and truth with others. When we trust in God’s grace, He can accomplish more through us than we could ever imagine on our own.

If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him. And you have seen him. Philip saith to him: Lord, shew us the Father; and it is enough for us. Jesus saith to him: Have I been so long a time with you and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou: Shew us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not of myself. But the Father who abideth in me, he doth the works. Believe you not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? Otherwise believe for the very works’ sake. Amen, amen, I say to you, he that believeth in me, the works that I do, he also shall do: and greater than these shall he do. Because I go to the Father: and whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do: that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you shall ask me any thing in my name, that I will do.

Jesus reveals that to know Him is to know the Father. God is not distant or hidden; He is made visible through the life, words, and actions of Christ. When we look at Jesus, we see the compassion, mercy, and faithfulness of God. This Gospel encourages us to deepen our relationship with Christ so that we may better understand the Father’s heart. Through prayer, Scripture, and the sacraments, we come to know God more personally. The more closely we follow Jesus, the more His love transforms our lives.

Jesus comforts His disciples by reminding them that He is preparing a place for them. In moments of uncertainty, we often focus on our fears rather than God’s promises. Christ invites us to trust that our lives are held securely in His hands. Easter Season reminds us that the risen Lord has conquered death and opened the way to eternal life. Whatever challenges we face today, we can move forward with confidence, knowing that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Our hope rests not in temporary circumstances but in His faithful love.

John 13:16-20

Amen, amen, I say to you: The servant is not greater than his lord: neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him. If you know these things, you shall be blessed if you do them. I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen. But that the scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth bread with me shall lift up his heel against me, At present I tell you, before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass, you may believe that I am he. Amen, amen, I say to you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me: and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Jesus teaches that humility and faithfulness are essential qualities of discipleship. Those who receive His messengers receive Him, and ultimately receive the Father. The Gospel reminds us that God often works through ordinary people and simple acts of service. Every opportunity to welcome, encourage, or support another person becomes an opportunity to encounter Christ. Through faithful living, we participate in God’s work and help build His Kingdom.

John 12:44-50

But Jesus cried and said: He that believeth in me doth not believe in me, but in him that sent me. And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me. I am come, a light into the world, that whosoever believeth in me may not remain in darkness. And if any man hear my words and keep them not, I do not judge him for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that despiseth me and receiveth not my words hath one that judgeth him. The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself: but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting. The things therefore that I speak, even as the Father said unto me, so do I speak.

Jesus proclaims that those who believe in Him believe in the One who sent Him. His mission is to bring light into a world often marked by darkness and confusion. The Gospel invites us to examine whether we are living according to Christ’s teachings and allowing His truth to shape our decisions. By following Him, we move from darkness into light and discover the path that leads to lasting peace and hope.

John 10:22-30

And it was the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem: and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon’s porch. The Jews therefore came round about him and said to him: How long dost thou hold our souls in suspense? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them: I speak to you, and you believe not: the works that I do in the name of my Father, they give testimony of me. But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep. My sheep hear my voice. And I know them: and they follow me. And I give them life everlasting: and they shall not perish for ever. And no man shall pluck them out of my hand. That which my Father hath given me is greater than all: and no one can snatch them out of the hand of my Father. I and the Father are one.

Jesus assures His followers that no one can snatch them from His hand. This promise reflects the security found in God’s love. Life may bring challenges, temptations, and uncertainty, but Christ remains faithful. The Gospel encourages us to trust in His protection and guidance. Faith does not eliminate difficulties, but it gives us confidence that we are never alone. Our lives rest securely in the hands of the Good Shepherd.

John 10:11-18

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep. But the hireling and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming and leaveth the sheep and flieth: and the wolf casteth and scattereth the sheep, And the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd: and I know mine, and mine know me. As the Father knoweth me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep. And other sheep I have that are not of this fold: them also I must bring. And they shall hear my voice: And there shall be one fold and one shepherd. Therefore doth the Father love me: because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. No man taketh it away from me: but I lay it down of myself. And I have power to lay it down: and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Jesus reveals the depth of His love by describing Himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep. His sacrifice demonstrates the extent of God’s commitment to humanity. The Gospel reminds us that genuine love involves self-giving and concern for others. Christ’s example challenges us to care for those entrusted to us and to act with compassion. In His loving leadership, we find a model for authentic discipleship.
